What is a record label and what do they do?
A record label is a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also searching for new talent and development of new artists, and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers.

Parlophone Records Limited (also known as Parlophone Records and Parlophone) was a German-British record label founded in Germany in 1896 by the Carl Lindström Company as Parlophon. The British branch of the label was founded on 8 August 1923 as The Parlophone Company Limited, which developed a reputation in the 1920s as a jazz record label. Even though the record label started off as a jazz one, it has now branched off with various different genres of music (such as rock, rap, RnB, pop). Due to its variety of genres, this record label has many different target demographics, which are all reached from all the different artists and bands they have. They sign artist which are unique and different. They have artists for example like gorillaz which are very challengeing and have there own different successful style.

One of Parlophone's biggest success has been David Guetta, he has sold more than 8 million albums and 300 million singles worldwide, he also has won 2 grammy awards. Coldplay is also one of Parlophone's most successful bands, they have won best british live acts at the brits. Coldplay has produced a few albums which have gone on to sell in millions, more than 60 million. The band has gone on to win six awards in britain and Three grammy awards in the United States. they have topped the charts in over 37 countries. They have won 8 brit awards.

To market Parlophone they use a range of social sites like youtube and Tumblr. This helps advertise Parlophone so it become well know. They use youtube as a social site, this is a vital part for the artist to do well, because many people use youtube to listern to music so if they advertise youtube many people will listern to the artists music which will result in the artist being succesful and well known and therefor looks good on the artist and Parlophone. Market social media is all about promoting and advertising parlophone to gain more of an audience.

Music video analysis

Band name: Blur
Song: Beetlebum
Genre: rock
It is important to note that this song is about the effects of herion
Blur is a well established band with a strong fan base which will attract many to the music video. In addition, the lead singer of Blur is also the lead singer of another well established band called Gorillaz, which will attract another fan base to this song.
The video seems very professional, expressing how it had a decent budget reflecting the mainstream record label

The video with a small image of a person laying in leaves, as the
whole song is about the effects of herion I am assuming this person
has been framed to suggest they have taken herion.
0:18 Transitions to the guitarist performing the song, kinetic
camera movement is used here - the camera moves up and
down to the beat of the song
0:23 Wide shot of the entire band, the lead singer is centrally
framed making him the centre of attention, the little lighting
mainly on him expresses this point more to the
audience.

0:37 Close up shot of the singer, these shots are usually
emotive which is ironic in this frame as he is showing alack of facial
expression possibly expressing a lack of interest towards
the meaning of the song
0:46 Bass and drums kick in, a shot of them playing their
instruments expresses this

1:06 Still frame shot of each member are shown, transitioning
to each frame in the beat of the song
1:08 High angle shot pans out into the sky, showing the globe
then turning into a bubble and popping (as seen in the frame
below) going into the chorus. Then cuts back to the lead
singer with a close up shot. Possibly reflecting the
feeling of being high on herion.

1:47 The lead singer uses his thumb to force a smile, possibly
connoting his depression and how he then relies on herion to
make him happy
2:20 Long take close up shot of the lead singer smother his
lips on the microphone, this makes the viewer uncomfortable
2:40 Still frame shots repeated

2:44 High angle shot pans out into the sky again but this time
shows a different globe, probably to prevent repetition in the
video and keep the audience interested
2:50 The lead singer is now on the floor, mimicking what it
is like to be high on herion
3:06 Throughout the video the singers condition seems to
get worse and worse, his condition seems to be at its worse now
with the singer shown not being able to get his words out while
the band continues to play, the audience are now shown the
full effects herion has on you.
3:30 The speed of the video is now slower and the camera
begins to pan around the room showing the band play their
instruments
The audience are now taken outside and begin to float fast
in the sky, like a balloon, possibly describing the effects herion
has on you. The music video is set in Islington, England -
which is attractive to an English audience. Also, the area of
Islington is seemingly a nice area but this music video
contradicts that image and shows only bleak, run-down
buildings which those from the area are familiar
with.

Band name: Radiohead
Song: Street spirit (fade out)
Genre: alternative rock

This is monochrome video; creating a very emotive video, which
ties into the song very well. The sky is black; darkness hangs over the entire video.
Wind is blowing with few streaks of lightning flash through the darkness,
creating an ominous mood. The lead singer stands looking over his
shoulder, deciding whether to jump, arms stretched out he does jump
off the top of a trailer caravan. He falls in slow motion and seems
to strike the ground below

This quickly switches to a prone Yorke (the lead singer) lying on top of a car.
He is perhaps dead, or contemplating death and the
hopelessness of his predicament

The rest of the band play supporting roles as characters around him,
appearing out of sync and time with him, freeze and
unfreeze in their movements. This allows the audience to focus
more on the lead singer, as he is the most recognisable in the band -
this is done as a way to market the music video making
the video more recognisable to an audience.
The song is filled with similarly dark symbols
such as: a dragonfly descending
A dark tree, barely visible with the little light. In addition,
there appears to be no leaves on the tree which could express
to the audience a lack of life - which links back to
the sadness of the song
A vicious dog held on by a chain

However, at the end of the video we see the lead singer
levitating. Levitation in mysticism is a sign of
enlightenment, of rising above nature and not being
constrained by it. It is also a sign of hope to
the audience in the darkness
that plagues the video.
